Appointments

Urgent appointments

Please be aware that same day appointments are only given where there is a clinical need/urgency. You may be advised to book a routine appointment or you may be signposted to another service, such as the Minor Ailments Scheme run by most pharmacies, our in house Physiotherapist, our in house Well Being Co-ordinator etc or to the Extended Access Service.

It is helpful if you can contact us as early as possible if you feel you need to be seen the same day.

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday):

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

The Practice reserves some appointments each day for children who are unwell. If there are no appointments available you will be able to speak to the doctor on-call. You may be advised to seek further medical attention if your child’s condition deteriorates. This could be with the practice (even the same day if clinically appropriate), the Out of Hours Service, or via A&E.

Children with signs of more serious illness generally need to be seen by a clinician, here at the practice (or the Out of Hours Service if we are closed) or at A&E, depending on which you feel is most appropriate.

These signs include:
– Excessive drowsiness
– Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
– Cold or discoloured hands &/or feet with warm body
– Abnormal pains in arms &/or legs
– Abnormal colour (pale or blue)
– Persistently high temperature not responding to medication
– Persistent vomiting and diarrhoea
– Unusually severe headache
– A stiff neck (difficulty putting chin to chest)
– Dislike of bright lights
– A rash that does not fade with pressure

If your child has any of the above symptoms please either contact the surgery without delay or, if your child is unresponsive please call 999.

Some conditions can be managed with advice over the telephone or advice from the local pharmacist. When considering if your child requires an urgent assessment the following information may be of use:
– Many common infections such as colds, coughs, sore throats and ear ache do not necessarily need antibiotics and often get better within 7-10 days.
– Some children who have seen their GP with a cough may still be coughing 2 weeks later.

In case of an emergency please tell the receptionist who will inform the doctor.

We respectfully ask that you do not ask a doctor to provide a home visit if you are able to come to the surgery.

It is important all patients read the document below which explains our policy and criteria for home visits.
